Real estate education vendors must submit a course approval application through their MyLREC Portal after the vendor certification has been approved. Each application must include:
- A detailed, timed course outline, including breaks, with specific learning objectives for each major topic. Learning objectives must be written in performance terms, i.e., what the learners will be able to do after each section. Generic objectives will not meet approval standards.
- A $40.00 fee for each course offered for continuing education credit toward renewal.
All courses and accompanyingstudent materials must comply with the LREC Continuing Education CourseApproval Guidelines (available in the sidebar).
Continuing Education Course Standards
Proposed courses must meet two key criteria:
- Cover a real estate or real estate-related topic directly related to real estate brokerage practice.
- Contribute to the purpose of continuing education: ensuring licensees possess the knowledge, skills, and competence necessary to serve the public effectively and responsibly.
The knowledge and skills taught must enable licensees to better serve real estate consumers.
Additional Requirements:
- Courses must be a minimum of two hours.
- Time devoted to welcomes, greetings, questions-and-answer sessions, meals, or refreshments does not count toward instructional time.
- Courses must be open to all licensees, regardless of broker affiliation or membership.
- Course sponsors, vendors, and/or instructors shall not use approved class instruction time to promote/market their company, solicit or gain any type of business advantage, hold drawings or collect business cards.
- Vendors shall not advertise, schedule, or offer a course until it has been approved by the Commission.
Distance Learning
Distance learning courses must also be certified by the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO) for the delivery method (see Chapter 55, §5333 of the Commission Rules and Regulations).
Application Review
The Commission will approve or deny the course application within 45 calendar days of receipt. Incomplete applications or requests for additional information or revisions may delay the review process beyond 45 days.
