Partial prelicense education credit may be granted for real estate courses completed in other states. Applicants currently or previously licensed in another state who are not applying through reciprocity or endorsement (Welcome Home Act) must complete an education and/or examination review prior to submitting an initial license application.
Coursework Credit Review Procedure
The following documents must be submitted to the Commission Education Division via email at education@lrec.gov:
- A cover letter or email including your: full name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
- An official certified license history verification from each state where you currently hold or previously held a real estate license.
Examination Review Procedure
The Commission may accept examination results from another state as a substitution for the National portion of the Louisiana real estate examination if:
- An equivalent license examination was passed within the last five (5) years prior to the application date; and
- The applicant's real estate license has not expired.
In addition to the documents listed above, applicants requesting an examination review must also submit:
- The Examination Score Report issued by the testing facility.
Note: Examination score reports may indicate pass/fail status rather than a numerical score.
Additional Requirements for Brokers
To avoid processing delays, broker applicants must provide with the initial application, proof that they have been licensed as an active real estate licensee for at least four years, with two of those years occurring immediately prior to application submission.
The official license history must clearly show active and inactive license dates/statuses. If this information is not included, a separate letter from the licensing state may be submitted.
The documentation cannot be older than three (3) months at the time of submission.
Next Step
After receiving your review determination from the Commission, be sure to follow the checklist under the Salesperson or Broker section of the Obtain a License page to complete the licensing process.
