Pre-licensing Courses

Chapter 53, §5331 of the Commission Rules and Regulations outlines the required course content for pre-license education courses (see sidebar).

Pre-License Course Requirements

The following must be submitted for review and approval (Note: you must be a certified real estate school to offer pre-license courses):

  • The title of the Principles and Practices book utilized and a copy of its table of contents.
  • A timed and detailed outline with clearly defined learning objectives. Learning objectives must be written in performance terms, i.e., what the learners will be able to do after each section. Generic objectives will not meet approval standards.
  • A detailed narrative of the Louisiana-specific material being presented.

Assessments

  • Quizzes and the final exam must be multiple-choice with at least four possible answers per question.
  • A copy of the final exam and answer key must be submitted.

Distance Learning

Distance learning courses must also be certified by the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO) for the delivery method (see Chapter 55, §5333 of the Commission Rules and Regulations).

Instructor Requirements

  • Pre-license courses may only be taught by a Certified Pre-license Instructor. See link in sidebar.
